To those of you who really know me, the idea of me participating in a 5K is absolutely ridiculous. Well I’m participating in a 5K this Sunday, the Damon Runyon 5K at Yankee Stadium. And I say participate because I’ll be totally honest with you: I’m walking it, not running it. Give me until next year to actually run the 5K. (Have I ever told you about the time I tried to do the Couch to 5K program? I ended up hurting my shoulders so badly on my first run that I never did it again. Yep, that’s right. My shoulders.)
Thanks to some very generous friends, I’m past the minimum fundraising requirements, but there’s still time to help raise money for a very worthy cause. Maybe you knew the folks in my familes who have been affected by cancer, or maybe (but hopefully not) you’ve been touched by it as well in some way. Or maybe you just want to donate money to inspire a fat guy to start running. Whatever your reason, if you want to donate money to kicking cancer’s ass, you can do so here.
The “victory lap” is the warning track of Yankee Stadium. Assuming I make it that far (which, come on, I’m walking… that’s gotta be doable, right?), I’ll post some great photos from inside Yankee Stadium and make sure to include my best Rocky impersonation.
